The History Of Memorandum

Memorandum, the ethical office supply company, was formed in 1997 by Steve Gibb.

Steve and a selection of his co-workers set up Memorandum to highlight how businesses could help others and the environment as well as making a profit. This stemmed from experiencing first hand how a badly run company could have a negative effect on the environment as well as the staff working in it.

Memorandum is known as an ethical company - its ethos focuses on helping charities and providing green office supplies to businesses. With a clear vision that customers are not just account numbers, Memorandum has introduced many environmental friendly office solutions.

People working at Memorandum are very aware of how mankind's actions are affecting the environment in which we live and that it's our responsibility to look after the planet. Already, within the UK, the effects of global warming are resulting in wetter weather.

Furthermore it is becoming apparent that resources that are so key to our present day to day living are being used up rapidly and as such as a species an alternative, which is cleaner and greener for the environment, must be found. This need for change is further demonstrated by the filling of landfill sites with items that will give off harmful gases once they start to biodegrade - if they ever degrade.

The conclusion for those at Memorandum is to make it easy for offices to be as green as possible, without it costing the Earth!

Memorandum also supports people who are less fortunate by providing donations to these charities who do great work:

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation - this is a UK based charity that centres on finding a cure for one of the biggest killers in the modern world. The Roy Castle Foundation also educates children about the harmful effects of smoking.

The Rainbow Centre - support and therapy are offered to children who are affected by life threatening illness by this small Bristol based charity. The charity's aim is to help children express their feelings around their illness or bereavement through art, play and therapy.
